This is a condition where the pancreas does not produce enough enzymes to properly digest food and absorb nutrients. Conditions that can lead to poor pancreatic function include pancreatic cancer, pancreatitis, and cystic fibrosis. The Pancreatic Elastase-1 stool test is typically ordered when a person is experiencing symptoms of pancreatic insufficiency, such as stomach cramps, bloating, malnutrition, unexplained weight loss, and oily, large, pale-colored, or fatty foul-smelling stools.
